Purple Haze CBD Review:

History of Purple Haze:

Purple haze is said to have originated in Colombia. It was obtained by the “Haze brothers” and “Sam the skunk man” and was brought back to America. Todays Purple Haze is known to be a very easy strain to grow and is extremely weather resistant. Purple Haze can take anywhere from 7-9 weeks to flower depending on the climate.

What makes it purple?

Purple Haze and other strains turn purple due to high concentrations of a pigment called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins is a naturally occurring water soluble pigment found in a variety of plants. Anthocyanins is the pigment that also makes red grapes red, blueberries blue and blackberries black.

Anthocyanin is present in a multitude of cannabis strains. The pigments account for a variety of colours present in the buds not just purple, they can make the buds turn blue, black, dark green, red and even gold.

There are many other factors that impact the colour of plant, including the genetics of the plant, the temperature, light and PH levels can all play a role in the colour of the plant.

As with many other plants cannabis leaves can also change colour when they reach maturity. When cannabis plants grow in nature this can also happen when nights become longer, and the temperature starts decreasing. When the temperature falls chlorophyll can start to break which allows amazing colours to shine through.

Certain strains have a very high level of anthocyanin and under winter weather the strains reveal beautiful purple hues.

In popular culture:

Purple Haze features in a lot of movies and music most notable in Jimi Hendricks classic 1970 hit “Purple haze”.

“Purple haze, all in my brain Lately things they don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky
Purple haze, all around
Don't know if I'm coming' up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
Whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me”

Jimi Hendrix, Purple Haze

There are many theories that the song had been composed as a tribute to a powerful LSD that also went by the name “Purple Haze”. The creator Stanley originally called it “Purple Monterey” which was named after the Monterey Pop festival where Hendrix performed in 1967.

Hendrix himself has since stated the song has nothing to do with drugs but was instead based on a dream he had. He stated, “I was deep, under the sea, when a purple mist (Purple Haze) surrounded me and enveloped me until I was lost”.

Hendrix also stated, “Whatever it is, this girl has bewitched me”. Hendrix 1983 song (A Merman I should Turn To Be) tells a similar story, where Hendrix and a women walk together to sea to escape an apocalyptic scene.

Speculation and stories aside, the strain is legendary across the world.
